First of all, kudos to the IQSS Team at Harvard for such an amazing Product!
My concern: I read somewhere on the internets (don't remember where) that an install profile for university departments is in the making and that it will probably be released in autumn 2010. Is any of this correct?
I ask, because I'm evaluating OpenScholar for the website of a university affiliated research institute. The current install profiles don't seem to lend themselves well to such an endeavour because of all the vsite stuff that comes along with it.
Ideally, I'd like to use the current install profiles according to their original purpose and additionally have a similar install profile (e.g. using most of the current OpenScholar features in a sitewide space without all the vsite implications) which lends itself better to typical departmental websites. The similarity of the install profiles would allow me to use a multi-site setup from one codebase and make it easier to pull in supplemental data from the project and staff websites to the departmental website and vice versa, e.g. via the feeds or the data modules. Additionally, the sites could be integrated with each other via a SSO mechanism using CAS or the bakery module.
Has somebody already tried a similar setup? I'd be grateful for some shared experiences on the matter or some suggestions for this use case.
Thanks,
David
